One of the most gratifying things I get as an artist is when people watch me do these different demonstrations and they in some way feel empowered by what I'm doing so they can confront their own fears. Maybe it's the fear of getting in an elevator maybe it's the fear of going on a plane and seeing the world.
I'm always interested in trying to investigate different personalities. I want to keep myself guessing and keep the fear element alive so that I don't get too comfortable.
How are fears born? They are born because of differences in tradition and history they are born because of differences in emotional political and national circumstances. Because of such differences people fear they cannot live together.
I know a lot of people fear the rougher types who might be at a state school but surely it is better to know who they are and how to deal with them than for that kind of child to appear as a completely different species to yours.
Another parent's different approach raises the possibility that you've made a mistake with your child. We simply can't tolerate that because we fear that any mistake no matter how minor could have devastating consequences. So we proclaim the superiority of our own choices. We've lost sight of the fact that people have preferences.
I talk to women's groups all over the country and see women struggling with this. The fear of not being accepted of being different of not having a man all make it hard for a woman to do what she really believes is right for her.
People have a fear of the unknown. Insects have different senses than us different amount of limbs and their body structure is very different. It's hard for us to really relate to them and understand them.

Action is a great restorer and builder of confidence. Inaction is not only the result but the cause of fear. Perhaps the action you take will be successful perhaps different action or adjustments will have to follow. But any action is better than no action at all.
I thought that somehow your life would be much different when you're famous... and it's not. You just buy more stuff.

I used to think no one should go into show biz but now I feel differently. I now feel like it's a great career. If you can do it and make money at it and still not be so famous that you can have a normal life - then I think it's a great career.
When I was a kid the idea of why I wanted acting to be the thing I do for the rest of my life was different. It was Oh yeah I'll get girls and be famous.
I'm terrified of being too famous. What I'm really afraid of is that the audiences will go into the theater and not be able to forget that it's me that fame will stand in the way of my acting. I want to keep being able to change into different shapes and different personalities.
I was never famous as a kid. That's the biggest difference between me and any other kid actor is that I wasn't famous as a kid.

In opera as with any performing art to be in great demand and to command high fees you must be good of course but you must also be famous. The two are different things.
I know there are people if I go into a market or a city for the first time there are people that are there that just want to see the famous person or the guy from 'Dumb and Dumber' or whatever movie they liked. And that's fine it gets them in the door but then it's my job to give them something different.
A lot of people these days are not music lovers - they just want to be famous which is a very different thing to what I grew up believing in.
I lost some of my friends because I got so famous people who just assumed that I would be different now. I felt like everyone hated me. That is the most unhappy time of my life.
