If interstellar travel is as time- or energy- demanding as the above figures indicate it is far from obvious what the motive for colonization might be.

There's no need to travel further. The Los Angeles area is big enough for us.
It is my belief that we all have the need to feel special. It is this need that can bring out the best in us yet the worst in us.
