I certainly can't speak for all cultures or all societies but it's clear that in America poetry serves a very marginal purpose. It's not part of the cultural mainstream.
Defining marriage is a power that should be left to the states. Moreover no state should be forced to recognize a marriage that is not within its own laws Constitution and legal precedents.
